Band bio

The Bad Pennies formed in Vancouver, BC, in the fall of 2022, when Jeff Baker (guitar/vocals) and Mark Milner (bass) began jamming together in a rehearsal studio at Pandora’s Box. In early 2023, Jim Reid was recruited as the permanent drummer for the band. In June 2023, the band entered the BC Blues Challenge to begin building an audience. After the live performance round of the competition, the Fraser Valley Blues Society invited The Bad Pennies to represent the society, and by extension the province, in the band category at the 2024 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN, where they played a number of Beale Street clubs, including the venerable Rum Boogie Café.

After their return from Memphis, the band recruited a fourth member. Hailing from Mexico City, Francisco Bonilla (guitar, vocals & percussion) is the newest Bad Penny.

The Bad Pennies have played shows at The Blarney Stone, The Princeton and Lana Lou’s in Vancouver, The Frog Pub in Coquitlam , The Admiral Pub in Burnaby, The Landing Pub in Delta & the Legion in Tsawwassen. and at Bully’s Studios in New Westminster.  Before long, if you’re lucky, The Bad Pennies will turn up at a venue near you.
